Had the most amazing birthday dinner there! They gave us a private room which they'd decorated with a happy birthday sign, were prompt and courteous with the service -- they even showed my father how to cook sukiyaki -- and the food was delicious. As a surprise, they brought out a little mochi with a candle and even sang happy birthday. It was a wonderful experience and I am very grateful to the staff who went to such lengths to make it a special occasion.

Delectable food for a good price. Do visit here for Japanese food. There is a wide variety and best still they were delicious. I recommend the special sushi, chawamushi and the don. The special sushi was fried but not oily with a umami filling while the chawamushi was delicate while giving an excellent mouth feel. You could request for a private room but the dining area feels warm and cordial. I recommend booking in advance as it does get full.

Loved the flavours and the presentation of the food here. I had a tapas meal with tuna sashimi, scallops and teriyaki chicken. The place is clean and fresh and furniture is in good condition. There are benches, banquettes, chairs with small square tables for two or banquette seating for four. There's also a small counter seating style for a few people. There is enough seating for just under 30 people. Pretty lanterns line the top section of the cleverly delineated seating area for the banquettes. An attractive mural line one wall while the other wall has Japanese paintings with a food theme. The front of the store is glass and provides plenty of light and a clear view outside. Good range of dishes to choose from.

This is our go to Izakaya place near home, with our usual order of ebi tempura, salmon carpaccio and matsuki crispy salmon. Their food is tasty with fresh and classic flavours. We usually come here atleast twice a month, and will keep coming back!

AMAZING food, delicious sushi & beef, and incredible hospitality! As a Japanese person who’s been in Melbourne for the past 5 years, I’ve been endless searching for a restaurant to take me back home! Matsuki Izakaya is that one, and I’m coming back here for sure!!

Great Japanese food at great value! Had a lovely experience at Matsuki. The sushi was fresh and well-prepared, and the rest of the menu had a wide range of delicious options to choose from. Everything we tried was full of flavor and really satisfying. Great portion sizes and excellent value for money. Definitely a spot worth coming back to!
